This $108.4M design-build project is a result of an architectural competition and a rigorous tendering process. Often compared to “building a plane mid-flight,” this ambitious endeavour required agility, innovation, and a fearless approach—qualities that define the Bousada team.
For Bousada, building an Olympic pool was a first. By embracing proactive solutions and sticking to a strict timeline, our team delivered a state-of-the-art facility featuring:
• Recreational Pool: Three swim lanes, beach entry, and a large slide.
• Competition Pool: A 52m x 25m pool with a movable bridge and floor.
• Diving Pool: Springboards (1m, 3m, 5m, 7.5m) and a 10m tower.
• Fitness & Training Spaces: Multipurpose training rooms and a fitness center.
• Spectator Area: Multi-purpose rooms and bleachers with 500 fixed seats.
A winning partnership
Fielding a team of 30 tile setters and 12 cement finishers for a period of several months required seamless coordination with general contractor Pomerleau. Challenges like safely lowering materials with a custom winch system and integrating a trench drain grid into ceramic tiles were overcome by finding innovative, efficiency-boosting solutions.
A shared vision and strong partnerships enabled Bousada to seize this milestone opportunity and deliver a resounding win. This project not only marks our first Olympic pool construction but also sets the stage for new heights in the sports facility sector.
